UNESCO - the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was founded on 16 November 1945. This specialized United Nations agency,
aims at building peace in the minds of men through Education, Social and Natural Science, Culture and Communication.
Only non governmental organisation of the United Nations which has a mandate on the cultural field, the UNESCO works to increase the awareness of public authorities, private companies and the
civil society in general around the Heritage as a tool for peace and development.
There are numerous examples where a new management of the cultural and natural heritage enhanced the economic growth by creating jobs for the local population,
though artcrafts, cultural tourism or the meregence of new jobs.
The UNESCO accepted to support these two day of reflexion co-organised by the UATI, the AVEC, the city council of Arles and the Institute of urbanism of the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne
because the theme of the seminar is totally corresponding to its principles.
French financial
institution, the French Agency for Development (AFD) is at the heart of
the French system of public aids towards poor countries. Its mission : participate to the financing of the development.
Thanks to the large scale of financial tools it developed and enriched, the AFD supports the
public authorities, privat sector and local associations to set up diverse economic and social projects. It is supporting projects around 5 continants.

The national Agency for the Housing is a public company, financed by state budget incomes
and taxes.Its mission is to promote the development of the Quality of the private housing (article L 321-1 du code de la construction et de l’habitation)
Information and communication
Its action towards a sustainable private housing is based on the information and the communication that it develops: improvement of the information on the existing private housing, studies, enquiries, dissemination of technical documents and tools for the decision making.
Support to social housing
Thanks to a budget of more than 500 millions euros, it contributes each year to the improvement of around 130 000 private houses older
than 15 years.

The Alliance of European Cultural cities is a French association with its headquarters in the City
council of Tours. This association gathers local authorities (City councils, county, provinces, regions...) aiming at optimising their political and administrative actions in order to
reach a high level of quality and professionalism in the managment of their heritage.

One of the main missions of the national Commission is to contribute, in contact with the permanent delegation, to the intellectual
influence of France in the UNESCO. It constitutes a reservoir of expertise of high level, as well as a place of exchange of ideas and elaboration of propositions aiming at enriching and renewing the programs of the international organisation.
It is first of all a force of proposal, corresponding to
priorities as the building of societies of knowledge, bioethics or lasting development, education for all or development of higher education, cultural diversity or maintenance of
heritage.
In an inverse movement, and in a symmetrical way, the national Commission tries
to promote the influence of the UNESCO and of its values to the French society. It implicates actions of information and sensitization on the UNESCO and on big debates which take place there.It
is also translated by the development of numerous collaboration, particularly with the actors of associations and private sector. The coordination and animation, on national plan, of the
networks set up by the UNESCO also allow to increase awareness around the programs. For example, associated school realise concretely activities linked to the human right, the sustainable
development, the world heritage and the intercultural dialogue.
The UNESCO chairs constitute a tool for university exchanges in
relation with the main themes of sustainable development and cultural diversity.

The Caisse des Dépôts is a public financial establishment with unique statutes in France: it is put under guarantee and control of
the Parliament. For its creation, in 1816, the legislator intended to assure its self-government regarding the executive power, so that it can exercise its mission: manage private fund that are
given to it by the law, in total security. For 190 years, it fulfils this first mission of protection and management of private
funds.
The Caisse des Dépôts has four other main missions of general interest:
- on the saving funds, which it manages, it finances the social housing thanks to form of loans at a very long-term; it dedicates every year a third of its result to investments of
general interest, in domains insufficiently taken into account by the market,
- historical partner of local authorities, it invests in partnership with public and private actors founding plans for the development of the
territories, for urban renovation and real estate (of activity, trade, accommodation, health and social equipment, tourism and leisure) local equipment for telecommunication at a very high
speed connexion and the environment,
- major actor of the capital-investment to the benefits of SMES (stockholder of 230 funds, which even finance in capitals 2 500 SMES), it is, across its subsidiary CDC Cies, the spindle
of the new public Investment, where it plans to invest 2 Md€ over 6 years
- it invests today in new innovating activities : carbon finance, fight against climate heating, administration on the Internet (e-administration, personel medical files...)
The International Council on Monuments and Sites is an association of professionals throughout the world that currently bring together over 7500 members.
ICOMOS works for the conservation and protection of cultural heritage places. It is the only global non-government organisation of this kind, which is
dedicated to promoting the application of theory, methodology, and scientific techniques to the conservation of the architectural and archaeological heritage. Its work is based on the
principles enshrined in the 1964 International Charter on the Conservation and Restoration of Monuments and Sites (the Venice Charter).
ICOMOS is a network of experts that benefits from the interdisciplinary exchange of its members, among which are architects, historians, archaeologists, art historians, geographers,
anthropologists, engineers and town planners.
The members of ICOMOS contribute to improving the preservation of heritage, the standards and the techniques for each type of cultural heritage property : buildings, historic cities, cultural
landscapes and archaeological sites.

Arles is well known for the wealth of its antique heritage e (monuments romains) et roman, ses monuments inscrits au patrimoine mondial de l’Unesco en 1981 dont l’Amphithéâtre romain (les
arènes), le Théâtre antique, les
Cryptoportiques, les Thermes romains de Constantin, les
vestiges ducirque romain, le cloître
Saint-Trophime, le portail de Saint-Trophime et les Alyscamps, qui sont le départ du chemin d'Arles, l’une des trois voies menant à St Jacques de Compostelle. A côté de cette architecture
remarquable, Arles conserve aussi de belles constructions des XVIe, XVIIe, XVIIIe siècles. Depuis 1986, la ville est classée «Ville d’art et
d’histoire».
